About the pdf merger

Merging is a copy, not a re-render

This tool does not print your PDFs into a new document. It copies each page object, along with its fonts, embedded images and vector paths, into a fresh file and writes a new page tree around them. Nothing is rasterised and nothing is re-compressed, so text stays selectable, vectors stay sharp at any zoom, and file size is roughly the sum of the inputs.

That is the difference between a real merge and the 'print to PDF' approach many people fall back on, which flattens everything into images and quietly destroys searchable text.

Order, rotation and the details that trip people up

The output follows the order of the list, not the order you added the files, so reorder before merging rather than after. Rotation is applied per file and turns every page in that document ninety degrees — useful for scans that came in sideways from a phone or a document feeder.

Mixed page sizes are preserved exactly as they are. A merge of A4 and US Letter pages produces a document containing both sizes rather than forcing everything onto one; if you need uniformity, standardise the sources first.

Limits worth knowing before you start

Encrypted PDFs will usually fail. If a document needs a password to open, remove that protection in your PDF reader first, then merge. Forms and annotations generally carry over, though interactive form fields with identical names across documents can conflict and behave oddly in the merged file.

There is no page cap. The real limit is your device's memory: a few hundred pages is unremarkable, while merging several large scanned documents on a phone can exhaust the browser. On a laptop the same job is trivial.

There is no hard limit. Very large batches depend on your device's memory rather than any restriction we set.
